It’s BEEN a minute, with all the COVID/lockdown situations happening. We never thought that we would move into our new apartment during a worldwide pandemic. We honestly thought we’d only start looking for a place again once we’ve (South Africa) reached level 2. But here we are, a little piece of calm (moving is anything but calm, but you know what I mean) in the storm (global pandemic).
For those of you who don’t know, we relocated to Pretoria November last year. We’ve been staying with my parents ever since. It’s been so lekker, of course, spending time with the family. Being able to help each other out, having our washing done for us, etc. We only planned on staying at my parents for 4 months max. But we decided to stay a bit longer due to the uncertainty lockdown created.
Finally, we decided about a month/two months ago to start looking again. We wanted something central in the middle of Johannesburg (JHB) and Pretoria (PTA) at first. Close to both our offices (Darren’s office was going to be in PTA but then plans changed and we’re both in JHB now). We had specifics in mind of what exactly we wanted, the size, and the look and feel thereof. But we really struggled to find something in JHB that was similar to our perfect dream apartment in Pretoria that we came across in the first few months of being “Gautengers”.
But then, as always, God outdid Himself and provided everything we were looking for! Our non-negotiables were: A garden (pet friendly of course as we’re both animal lovers. We’ve been wanting to get a dog since we got married). A bright and beautifully finished place that would work for both of our brands we’re striving to grow. We needed a place where we could comfortably create content. So basically space we could turn into a mini studio every now and then. But also something that is naturally “on-brand”).
A spacious bathroom (we disliked our previous places bathroom so much, it was almost like they forgot to add space for a toilet into their plans before they started building so they literally squished the toilet in between the bath and the shower, it was awful!). Another item on our wishlist was a modern apartment (we felt like this was one of the most important parts of what we were looking for but if the budget did not allow it we’d settle for something less modern).
What we were blessed with: A modern 2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen with a gas hob! A lot of french toast coming out of this kitchen soon! Tons of cupboard space and big enough for both of us to run around in LOL, lounge/TV room area with more than enough space for our dining room table, couches, and more and of course a pet-friendly garden big enough for 2 medium-sized fur babies!
Our cups are REALLY running over right now and we are so grateful for that. We are still busy unpacking and THEN we will start our organising and decorating project! Which of course, is a journey I’ll take you all along with.
I will of course be sharing a lot of homey things on my Instagram account here and we’re planning on talking more about how we came across this beautiful area on my YouTube channel here! So follow me and subscribe to all the homey content you don’t want to miss out on.
